Why do job applicants fail? This was a theme of our first live Interviewing Course.

There is a multitude of reasons, and many relate to the job interview.  Let’s look at the top three:

  1. Botched the first interview.  In case you do not know, the first interview is your resume. The three most common failings are using a generic resume, failure to communicate value, and a lack of quantifiable achievements.
  2.  Misguided priorities. Applicants think the recruitment process is about them, not about meeting the needs of the employer
  3. Poor preparation.  Studies report this is a common complaint among recruiters.  Applicants do not sell their value. They just answer questions.
