Today I am beating a familiar drum: professional networking. Monday’s noon-time career tip featured three essential criteria for selecting networking contacts.   This is so critically important that I wanted to share them with you today

  1. They should be successful with their own robust network of contacts. You want connections with extended reach who can make an impact for you.
  2. Invest in connections who are willing to engage. If they do not know you or trust you, they will not help you.
  3. Their sphere of influence should align with your career goals and plan. Do not invest time with people who lack influence in your field or within targeted companies.

Why is this so important? With automation and computer screening controlling the employer’s front door, your experience and track record will not be enough.
