I am not opposed to resume writers.  I think they play an important role, given that most managers and executives hate to write their resumes.  But I feel that resume writers must redefine their value proposition given that the day of the one-size-fits-all resume is over.

Here is where they can help you.  Good resume writers know how to recognize the value and help you highlight your qualitative achievements.  That is why it is crucial to hire someone with industry experience. In summary, a good resume writer will help you develop an ATS-friendly format, but for your resume to slip through the ATS screening bots, your keyword score must be high.  This means you must use words from the prospective employer’s job posting throughout your resume – with each job and a list of accomplishments.

If you do not customize, your chances diminish.
