Two facts about social media: First: The vast majority of recruiters use LinkedIn to source candidates directly or to identify “up and comers” they should get to know.  

Second, if you are not visible on LinkedIn, the chances are a little better than certain you are invisible to those very people who can help you move to the next better job. That you may be uncomfortable using social media to bolster your brand does not ameliorate that reality.

Career management is not some random concept that is optional for your success.  You must master being the CEO of you.
