If you wait to begin networking for your next job until you have been terminated, you have waited too long.

In this new age of electronic applications, computer selection and inconsistent communication with applicants, you cannot afford to sit back and wait for lightning to strike, or if you prefer, the other shoe to drop.

The order of the day is the long game. Or as some might say, being in a state of constant job search readiness.  This is vital unless, of course, your finances are so robust that a prolonged job search will be a welcome hiatus.  

Playing the long game means preparing ahead.  Don’t delay.  Develop your job search plan of action before lightning strikes.
