Outside of Houston, Jim McIngvale is not a name that anyone would recognize, but if you live in the nation’s fourth-largest city you know him as “Mattress Mack,” a legendary furniture retailer.

His heart and his love for his community are as big as his business success.

He responded during the devastating floods from Hurricane Harvey.  And he did again last week.

He opened his two large furniture showrooms as warming centers.

Last Tuesday, more than 1,000 people showed up; 300 spent the night.  And again, on Wednesday.

“He is a true leader.”

He bought extra diesel to power his generators, arranged for food, and hired performance artists for the kids.

Said McIngvale: “Anybody who needs it — whether they’re homeless, whether they lost power, whether it’s just wanting to come in and get something to eat — anybody wants to come in, we’re here for them. We all have a responsibility for the well-being of the community.”

Deep in the heart of Texas, there is a man whose heart is filled with gold.

He is a true leader.
