The Demise of the Search Industry

The pandemic has accelerated the pace of business change. 

Not all, but many of these changes – more flexible work schedules, virtual conferences, and sales meetings, and remote work options – are, for the foreseeable future, here to stay.

Video calls, which have been a viable option to reduce unnecessary costs since the early 1990s, have not only been rediscovered but embraced.   

Just as workers evaluate their careers in what has become known as the Big Resignation, businesses question the search industry’s value proposition.  With an industry track record that is less than impressive with the success of its placements, companies are asking: Can we do this better? Increasingly, their answer is yes.

The growing role of video and automated processes supported by artificial intelligence is driving a sea change in this dying industry.

Search firm market share is slipping, and industry consolation is in the wings.
