The other day I was asked, What is the secret to success in finding a new job and enhancing my career?
The easy answer is a great deal of hard work.
While that is true, there is a more critical underlying theme you must embrace, and once you do, you will have opened the door to a more successful career.
The answer is to tackle without reservation or reluctance those things in your job search and in the day-to-day work that you do not enjoy. It may be initiating unsolicited networking calls or, in the course of your job, shying away from tough conversations because you abhor conflict.
To succeed, place your success first and foremost in your mind’s eye. Every day imagine how that success will feel. How much you will enjoy job security, the financial rewards, and what they mean in your life. Lock-in. This is what it takes.
