The other day I ran across a Rant and Rave Facebook page produced by residents of the community where I live and produce these daily videos. Their frustration with the job market – from the lack of responsiveness of employers to the fact some had submitted dozens of resumes – one reported 150 – never to hear a word from the hiring authority, was pretty intense and typical of what I hear across the country.
The job search rules have changed, and employers haven’t bothered to educate potential workers.
The truth is that today’s job market does not exist independently of the broader commercial markets, which have been turned upside down by the Internet, innovative technology, and machine automation. Businesses across the nation, both large and small, have been impacted.
You may be looking for a job in your close to home, but believe me, many of the same job search rules in New York City are also applicable in your hometown.
