Here are three easy steps to help you become a star in job interviews.
- Every job can be broken down into component parts: including operations/management, finance and budgets, human capital, and subject matter know-how. For each category, list your strengths and weaknesses, your accomplishments and setbacks, and then think about questions you would ask if you were making the hiring decision. That will give you solid coverage for potential questions you might encounter.
- Research the company – products or services, competitive position, corporate culture, and specific challenges they are looking to resolve. You must do your homework – a combination of Google, perhaps paying for some business intelligence research reports, and making contacts with customers. This will give you a broad profile of the enterprise.
- Rehearse answers to commonly asked questions, beginning with “tell us about yourself” or “why do you want to work here.
This approach will differentiate you from your competitors.
