A successful job search includes these three elements:
- Tools
- Discipline
- Determination
Your tools include a reliable internet connection with reasonable speed, a cell phone with a good connection or a reliable WiFi boost, and a daily journal to log in your networking calls and follow-up activities. If an employer does call you back, you cannot afford to stumble while you remember which job. Video is critical, so you must have a good camera – phone or computer – and good lighting. A private place to interview is also vital. Children crying, dogs barking, or people interrupting – that’s life, but also a no-no during an interview.
Discipline is critical. You must treat your job search as a full-time job. You will probably work harder looking for a job. Create and follow a daily routine.
Determination. You will be rejected, probably multiple times. You cannot allow that reality to derail your attitude and daily routine.
