In talent acquisition, the phrase the Big Dogs refers to the top candidates, those panelists who are the most prominent with notable reputations. Today’s approach to talent acquisition is flawed, but there are times when it can be the great equalizer, trumping overconfidence.  You see, the job interview is just intelligent people with competing narratives.

The person who gets the job is frequently not the best qualified. It is not always one of the Big Dogs.

The winner is usually the applicant who has taken the time to do a deep dive on the prospective employer and delivers the best narrative that speaks specifically and empathetically to the employer’s most significant concerns.

Don’t let the big dogs intimidate you. You’ve got this.
