Part 2
There is networking, and then there is strategic networking.
Strategic networking means you focus on relevant connections to your career plans – your mission, vision, and values leaving the promoters, sellers, and hustlers to distract someone else.
Suppose your goal is to become the CEO of a Fortune 500 corporation. Accepting connection requests from endless random CPAs who want to save you money on your taxes, the 20,000 financial advisers who want to sell you a retirement plan or life insurance policy, or the Realtors who have the perfect retirement home in a state you have no interest in living IS NOT STRATEGIC. Run, don’t walk away from this time-killing exercise. Ignore their invitations.
“The first step in building a strategic network is to decide what you want to accomplish with your career and where you want to do it. Then you can begin building your network, focusing on people and organizations in those areas.“
