This saying from Aesop’s Fables, a renowned collection of morality tales, is one that ambitious executives and managers should take to heart when they are attempting to advance their careers. In this intensely competitive market, with shifting business models, changing priorities, and uncertainty, you cannot afford a career misstep. In reviewing thousands of resumes during my 25-year executive search career, this was a fairly common issue.
To minimize the risks of potential career advancement from turning into a short-tenure career detour, you must ask the right questions on a variety of issues, from the finances to the organization’s culture.
