What is the difference between regular networking and strategic networking?
Networking is the process of making connections through telephone calls, at meetings, while traveling, or even playing golf.

Strategic networking is targeted networking. If you are looking for a job, you can hit the “Apply On-Line” button all day long, but that is the least efficient way to look for a job. If you are a manager or executive, most of the best jobs come through strategic networking, having someone who knows you refer you to the hiring authority.

To practice strategic networking, identify companies you would like to work for, try to connect with the CEO and any other executives who are on LinkedIn. Share ideas, note their accomplishments, birthdays, job anniversaries, write personal emails, or use BombBomb to send personalized video messages. It takes time but it works.
Connecting with an executive and then immediately expect them to help you find a job will not work.
