“Story telling is about connecting to other people and helping people to see what you see.” Michael Margolis, Author
The candidate sat across from the executive recruiter smiling confidently. The interview was ready to start.
Question: Describe your leadership style.
Answer: I’m a servant leader.
The recruiter waited for further explanation or comment. The candidate smiled confidently. He had nothing to add.
Now that is what I call a colossal lost opportunity for that candidate. If there was ever a question that was begging for an interesting story answer, that one ranks right up there with, “Tell me about yourself.”
Stories are what interviewers remember. Never let a CORE Question pass you by without making the most of your answer. Explain to the interviewer why you believe in servant leadership, for example. Be memorable.
