Recruiters like to use this technique when they sense a candidate is becoming too complacent, that they are successfully anticipating the next question. It is not in a recruiter’s interest for a candidate to become too confident about their ability to control the interview.
Recruiters should not be confrontational but using these types of questions can be very helpful in assessing a candidate’s ability to react to sudden changes.
