VisionMany healthcare organizations are long on control, short on vision.

Almost everyone has a vision statement, but that vision statement is rarely discussed and most employees have no idea what it says, nor do they care.  It is not part of the day-to-day life of taking care of patients, running a department, making the numbers.

Why?  Because far too many CEOs and their executive teams see their jobs of running the business as controlling the business.  The vision is something they know they must have, but, in many cases, it is not part of their day to day administration.

It will be interesting to see, as Generation X and Millennials move into leadership positions, whether their values will offset the mistakes or bad ideas of their advisers and mentors, or whether they will cut a new course in leadership that will result in lower costs and improved quality.

What do you think?
