Here are four guiding principles that propelled my improbable and satisfying career:

  1. I took jobs that played to my signature strengths,
  2. Regardless of the challenge, the thought of failing was never a factor.
  3. Enthusiasm was my secret sauce. I was passionate about the work I did.
  4. Given an improbable task, I was always willing to go the extra mile to prove it could be done.

From crime writer to leading the start-up of the nation’s second hospital-based helicopter ambulance program in the largest medical center in the world and then selling risk-averse hospital CEOs on the idea of profiting by stationing those helicopters on their roof, to recruiting healthcare personnel in six countries on four continents, I have experienced an enormously satisfying career.

What principles guide your choices.
