Schwab’s Pharmacy in Hollywood became famous during the mid-twentieth century. It was a favorite hangout for producers, directors, actors, and gossip columnists.  Aspiring movie stars from across America flocked to the drug store hoping to be discovered. “It happened at Schwab’s” was a saying used by the lucky few.

Like Schwab’s, traditional word of mouth venues and relationships to tout aspiring executives worthy of promotion have disappeared. Digital platforms have replaced them, sort of a do-it-yourself.

Today, executives are the CEOs of their career brands. They are also the Chief Marketing Officers.

Self-promotion makes many executives uncomfortable, but it is a very real fact of life in 2021.
