Two wonderful elements from onboarding expert George Bradt’s story on the recent great Northeaster storm:
- Great story telling is an essential part of leadership
- Onboarding is a structured strategic process, but the process, the organization, and the candidate must be willing to adapt at every phase
In healthcare, we can no longer afford to tolerate a high failure rate for those candidates who parachute into the organization from the outside. The national average of 40 percent of these candidates leaving within 18 months is extremely costly and disruptive to any organization’s morale and business results.
With the passage of healthcare reform, with its provisions to reduce expenses by cutting payments to hospitals and physicians, this hiring failure rate, which costs health systems and hospitals millions of dollars each year, is money we can ill afford to lose.
