I have been a job seeker, an employer, and a recruiter.  Based on my experience, I believe that today’s talent acquisition process is a hot mess. Yes, there are pockets of exceptionalism, but overall, it is seriously dysfunctional.

Business want to have their cake and eat it, too.

An Old Saying

Businesses want to have their cake and eat it, too.  They want improved employee engagement, enhanced employee satisfaction, and they want low turnover.  But they put potential hires through a recruiting process that is an unholy mishmash of poor communication, a transactional mindset driven by cost-of-hire and time-to-hire metrics, a lack of accountability, and new automated applicant tracking systems designed to eliminate 75 to 80 percent of online applicants without any communication.

No wonder three different organizations, including the Harvard Business Review, reported that between 40 and 60 percent of all management/executive hires had left their new organization within 18 months.

This is a big issue for people like you looking for your next better job.

More next week.
