How should you handle ghosting? Talent acquisition is struggling with the new recruiting and tracking technology.  So far, the industry’s performance, based on job applicant feedback, is not impressive.  One survey found that 75 percent of job seekers had been ghosted after an interview.

Growth in job openings and the Great Resignation combine to make this a job seeker’s market.

Here are my suggestions for how you should respond:

  1. During the interview, ask for a project timeline. Acknowledge their busy schedule, but communicate that you will follow up if you have not received an update.
  2. If you do not hear from the recruiter/employer on that date, wait four days and then text or email.  Do not burn a bridge. Take the high ground.
  3. If you do not receive a follow-up, ping other contacts you have in the company to ask for an update.
  4. Avoid victimhood. Remember, it is a job-seekers market.
