As we begin another week together, I want to talk about the importance of gratitude, that essential fuel for three qualities that must be part of a successful job search: discipline, enthusiasm, and confidence.

There is a certainty about looking for a job; there will be rejection in good times and bad. Rejection is personal.  The prospective employer is saying no.

No, you are not qualified.

No, you are not a good fit.

No, we don’t think you can be successful.

No, we do not want you.

I do not care how emotionally secure you think you are, rejection is hard to process.  It undercuts your enthusiasm and confidence. And that chokes your ability to maintain your discipline, which is necessary for success.

John G Self

How can that NOT be personal?  I do not care how emotionally secure you think you are, rejection is hard to process.  It undercuts your enthusiasm and confidence. And that chokes your ability to maintain your discipline, which is necessary for success.

Even after you get the job, you will face rejection, so this gratitude thing is something you need to make a part of your daily routine.  If you make it part of your daily routine, it will make a difference in your life.
