For more than four years, seven days a week, I curated, designed, and published to various social media platforms, the “Quote of the Day.” I started the daily feature in late 2015 when our political discourse, I believed, had entered a dark period. I felt that a dose of uplifting, positive sentiment would be a good thing. It was a labor of love that enjoyed a lot of popularity.

Over time, as others posted their favorite quotes, the number of views for “Quote of the Day” declined. There were days when so many quotes were posted that I thought LinkedIn had become a Quote of the Day billboard. Remembering the ancient Rabbinic wisdom (and one of my Quotes of the Day), “When you discover that you are riding a dead horse (or camel), the best strategy is to dismount,”  I ended the feature. I began to search for a new format to share ideas with potential clients.

My good friend, Mike Landess, an award-winning TV news anchor who returned to Tyler in retirement, helped me birth a new concept, “GotAMinute?”. That idea has evolved into a daily career management video blog designed to help people struggling to find a new job.

For the next several Saturdays, I plan to revisit some of my favorite quotes of the day from that time using the “GotAMinute?” format.

SPECIAL NOTE: By the way, Mr. Landess’s retirement did not last long. He is the news director for the new National Public Radio affiliate that will begin broadcasting this spring from the University of Texas at Tyler.
