Today we look at the whole issue of employee engagement, or rather the sad state of poor employee engagement throughout the US.  Fully half of America’s workers are not fully engaged and one-fourth are actively disengaged, according to a Gallup survey.

In manufacturing, unengaged employees produce crummy cars or products that work when you see them advertised on television, but not when you get them home.  In healthcare, poor employee engagement contributes to medical mistakes and, sadly, preventable deaths.

Employee engagement is a hot issue for healthcare organizations. But consultants say that one of barriers to a fully engaged workforce is, ironically, a lack of engagement among senior leaders.
